Answers:
People own their reasons for supporting team in colourless matches, but I do sometimes find myself supporting team close to my origins...but usually I support the underdogs. Some ethnic group I know support the best dominating team.
Other reason for people could be for example Australia sledging other players of different team which are borderline racist and so puts supporters off and hence choose against them. This doesn't travel for subcontinental teams but this is true for England/Ireland/NZ supporters who are of matching origin.
Another grounds for now is SL and WI be not at the top of their form for such a long time and at the beginning of the tournament, and the dominance by Australia have got every supporter from every nation dreading and hoping those two would knock them out, if, any team.
Another defence supporting teams against team of different origin have been history...such as South Africa other ending up on the wrong side of a hobby. New Zealand is not talked around, but they always hold their hearts broken around the semi-finals...so empire may support them over other teams, even though they I don`t know of a different origin of the supporters.
There are mixed reasons...but u r not incorrect to point out that empire may choose people of their cradle to win. Think of some Pakistani's who may support Bangladesh but not India. Both are pretty much from the same derivation but the reasons are different. But this is not true for every crust and fan as I mentioned above. Hope this help. Best of Luck.

Australians hold always held a soft spot for the West Indies (I regard you'll find that is impossible to tell apart with adjectives countries)...
In cricket terms Australia most repugnance the poms, followed by the kiwi's and then followed by the south africans, so your comment just about supporting teams close to their origins is instrument off the dot.

It does vary from country to country, and it also depends on the nouns of the team. In my opinion, if a squad even plays one game surrounded by international or local game,the rule pays them money just for playing and if they do best within the game,they are even compensated more than regular.No,noth only the cricket players achieve paid within first-class but in any type of winter sport.
Different countries have different system for return to their players. In India, players are put in different grades and wage is being made as per the category. They also get clash fee for every clash they play. There is different payment strcuture for first class, assessment and one day match.
They get rewarded per match. It is believed that Michael Clarke get paid $750,000 a year. Mainly because of the commercials he have been involved contained by and his Slazenger bats.

I love Bangladesh! I don't think they will win but at hand is a huge chance that they will hand over a tough game to adjectives of the 6 teams. By the approach, they're goal be to only obtain to the super 8 and we are not hoping high even so.

I reckon Bangladesh team is better than Indian squad, but sorry they can't win the cup. I think Sri Lanka will be the Champs. All Indian fan, Pakistan and Bangladesh fans support Sri Lanka, We can bring it stern to South Asia.

However, this is not a believable thinking at this point of time. May be within subsequent 12 to 16 years we can possibly dream, the way New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka can dream presently to be winner of ICC. We are however to pass the High School Exam and you want us to sit for University Exam (lol). Hope I could enjoy put the position of Bangladesh cricket strength in right perspective.
Please don not find me wrong that Bangladesh would be laughed away within future World Cups. Who would own thought that Sri Lanka could be the contender of WC, back surrounded by early 80s?
