How habitually should I be shifting my pub cartridge?

Hello,

How often should I be shifting my bar video? I went to a store and they want to charge $20 for labor--psssh. I've looked up some tutorials, and the nonspecific from wrapping from the bottom of the bar to the top looks comfortable enough, it's when I capture to the shifters that I see that I will have some difficulty. Thanks.

Answers:    Change your cartridge when you think it desires it or it looks worn. That will depend on how much you ride. I ride 6+ hours per week and the tape I hold on now is a year dated and in devout shape. Yes you start at the bottom with cassette and work your way up to shifters. Once near wrap on top of shifter afterwards below alternating back and forth a few times till the banister is covered and tape is tucked in order under shifter. Your shifter may enjoy rubber boots, if they do lift them up only enough to tuck video under. Make sure and preserve tape tantalize as you go. This is an smooth task that a bike owner should be capable of do. Bike shops are great for some things but knowing the in's and outs of your own bike is priceless. Do as much work as you can and save your money, even if you fall short you will learn something from it. I do not talk about the brand of tape, but it comes near gel pads that are placed beneath the tape. I use this style and it add a little comfort. Anyways here a site that can lend a hand guide you through the taping process.

hmmm, what handrail? Bike shops charge you for things you can do yourself. The catch is they are really right at it because they do it all the time.

If you break the $15-$20 tape you are hosed. If they break it they throw it away and start over with unmarked tape at no extra charge. You video your handlebars and have to pay for up and do it several times. In that time the tape get stretched and the adhesive get tired. They can do it right first pop. You do your bars and hold a razor blade to trim the cassette off nattily at the end. You don't realize you enjoy just put a scoreline contained by your handlebar weakening the alloy stuff. You hit a bump a year from now and you hear a cracking hum as your handlebar breaks off carefully at the scored rank...
I understand how you have a feeling about the charge. But realize, even though it's pretty simple, the shop has to charge for their time. Whether simple or difficult it take time to do it.

You change the cassette when you want to, simple as that. I can usually go 2 season myself before I tweaking my tape - but that would differ depending how much you ride and what you approaching.

As far as the wrapping, I'd say the hardest fragment is making sure it's tight and even and not running out of tape earlier you finish! The shifters are really quite simple to wrap around. If you brand a mistake - usually running short of tape, you can usually rehash it once or twice without ruining the cartridge.
I wrapped my first handle bar at 14 yrs. old -- it is that straightforward to do. Anyone with a modicum of skilfulness can do it. If nothing else clear close attention when you take bad the old wrap and ape how it was put on earlier. Unwrap one side at a time and you always own the other side to unwrap as you need if you forget on your first try.

I translate my yellow video as it gets dirty. I don't ride that bike as much so it may step several years before change. I change the cartridge on my primary ride as it wears -- looses its cushion -- around every other year.

I like the unmarked synthetic cork tape.

BTW, $20 for any labor is generous. You may not like it, but that's how they breed a living.
