What's the top 2 brands of mountain bike forks out nearby?
Question:I want to build a XC bike either hardtail or full suspension. Is Fox Forx and Rock Shox the best?

i think fox have the best suspension of anything. buy it if you can afford it - performance doesnt come cheap. i currently hold a Marzocchi Drop off 130mm. its get a bit a bob, but is very plush and notably adjustable via dual SPV air cartridges.
Rock shox have some descent stuff, but expect to pay several hundred dollars for a worthy one. ive heard that this brand is remarkably solid and has tough shocks.
Marzocchi is descent. as stated back, i have a drop sour with 130mm and it be on sale for $250 (2005 model) but i love it.
manitou have a few good fork. ive hear only the Minute flash of forks and the Travis series are the only angelic ones though.
you should get a buoyant dual susp. frame and use a fox float or talas air shock. i plan to upgrade to one soon because they are fluffy and ive heard like mad of good reviews roughly speaking these shocks.
Fox and Marz are the most reliable brands out there. Fox tend to use all metal construction (no plastic dampers or other waste like that) and Marz have a history (after they went to the Z-series at least) of one the most bombproof forks out there, of late not the lightest. Their lower end models of belatedly aren't quite as apposite though.
Rockshox is decent, but aside from Boxxers, you will pretty much NEVER see one of their forks on the North Shore (BC).
Manitou have awesome R&D, but their forks don't seem to final as long and require almost daily repairs.
Basically, if you've got the lolly, get a Fox Forx. If money's tight, find a Marz - or perhaps a RockShox if you're not too thorny on your bike.
One other thing to maintain in mind is where on earth the nearest warranty centre is. If you hold to send your fork out of the country to acquire it fixed, you'll be waiting for a while.
Are bicycle drum brakes unpredictable and serviceable?
Question:I am about to buy a foldable bike that have a rear drum break and I am wondering if I will know how to change the "pads" or doesn`t matter what is wearable in in that, when needed. Or do I have to make over the entire wheel?

They are completley servicable, but do yourself and your teeth a favor don't attempt this yourself, nick it to a shop where its more likley to own "old school" mechanics you bring that contained by to most modern shops your going to get alot of chief scatching and "hmm yah maybe we can fix it"

What's the best bicycle for city riding below $500?

if u r just useing the bike for transportation and zilch els than any bike will do but if u want to fell comfortable or look cool or wanting to other kinds of rideing after consider a moutain bike or hybrid or west cost chopper!
haybrids give a immensely smooth and relaxing ride but useless any where away from pavement
westcoast choppers are the concerned of bikes that are really heavey with a gigantic backbone wheel a unbelievably long fork and a very small front tiller. it gives the fell of rideing a small motor bike. it will make most organizer on the street turn to look at u and you get to lean backbone while rideing.
mtbs are good for any kindly of surfaces they can just just about do any thing that u can expect of.
if u like to purchase a mtb next consider what i say below:
u should consider getting companys resembling haro,kona,norco,specialized,tr... and gt. start with kona, specialized and giant they product good bikes and they are cheap for bikes in the same field. for kona look for stuff, lavadom or scrap
norco:shore series
haro:v series
specialized:any article they are all suitable and cheap
ironhorse:make almost uninfringeable bikes but they are heavy
banshee:morphine series
back buying the bike make sure that the dimonds of the frame should be small and points upwards the tyres should be broad and with lots of rubber studs. the fork should enjoy atleast 100mm of travel better if beond 130mm. the suspention brand that you should look for is marzochii or rock shock they are the most common ones. if you dont similar to the suspention then you might consider spending an other 500$ on bomber shocks they are appropriate qualityed stuff. i recomand a hard tail because they are easier to ride up hillock and gives lots of nouns. and is cheaper and lighter. you should look for disk breaks but if the bike dont come with them v breaks are fitting too exept over time they dig into your rim and shorten the rim's existence.
For that amount, go to a bike shop, and check out the hybrid/comfort/whatever they phone call 'em bikes. 5 bills will get you a truthfully decent run-around bike.

How do you replace the cable on a Grip shift?
Question:i have other hated these systems and never really buried how they worked. my friend has a shimano indexed backside shifter and a friction style front. how do i take the ancient cables out and put the clean ones in?
end time i took one of these apart, a small plastic peice just grain out and i have no perception were it go. any ideas what its for?

Yipes. There are several different models of these and hold different ways of installing a new cable. I'll try to explain, but Grip Shift should really be done by a pro...
1) Shift to the cable slack position. Loosen cable from derailleur. Remove handgrip.
2) Grasp the shifter. Pull it out towards the bring to a close of the handlebar about 1" VERY scrupulously. You may need to verbs it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise as you verbs. You'll see the innards of the shifter and where the cable is. Do NOT remove the entire shifter from it's housing.
3) Look for the cable close, then push the cable out until you can grasp the wind up. Remove the cable.
4) Take the new cable and reverse the removal. Note that in attendance is a "ramp" that the cable rides on. Do NOT lubricate anything inside.
5) Once the cable is pushed through the housing, pull it through and hold somewhat tension on it. Reseat the shifter into it's housing, attach to the derailleur as mundane.
That little black piece could be one of 3 things depending on the shifter model- it is either a cable anchor, a broken bad piece of "ramp", or it is the detent spring used to index the shifter.
Some of the better quality Grip Shift models lately have a bit plug on the housing that you remove to replace the cable instead of disassembling the shifter so BEFORE you tear everything apart, look for the plug.

lol.. closing weekend a buddy and i were almost 4mi out on a trail doing mant. work and got in position to start and went to translate the blade on the bow saw and it was below tension, a damn wing nut go flying somewhere in the leaves. we search for 30 min. for a rusted wing nut in the topple leaves, cant believe i found it. almost ruint the day! i guess thats adjectives irrelivant i just needed to share my story. i know how you feel almost the plastic piece though. Go get Zinn and the art of mt. biking if you dont already hold it, its been my bible for maint. for the second couple years or so. when do i get to see that movie dude?
