Trek, Mongoose, GT, Apollo, DiamondBack, Giant or Haro for a $500-$650 hardtail, disc brake Mountain Bike?
Question:These companies all hold these specific requirements in the inventory of 500-650. I guess i am unfamiliar beside the brands. Are any of these worth staying clear of? At the moment i am leaning towards a Trek 3900Disc, Giant Boulder Disc, or Mongoose Tyax Elite.

Giant is the best out of all these manufacturer. You get the most thud for your bike. My friend and i bought bikes at the same time for like peas in a pod price. Mine was a specialized and his be a Giant, his bike is better in a moment ago about everyway.
I say-so Giant too. They are really reliable and can be repaired easily. The Giant Boulder Disc is an awesome bike and you will be really thankful with it.
Stay away from Mongoose GT Apollo and DiamondBack. I too am partial to the Giant. I enjoy a Giant Trance and I love it. For what you want to spend you might be better off watching Craig's enumerate or EBay and get a well brought-up used bike. I picked up an '07 Trek 1000 road bike that was scarcely used at all for $400. If you are forgiving you can get a screamin concord.
Derailleur pricing?
Question:I am considering changing the reverse derailleur on my bike to say, a low pause to mid range Shimano derailleur similar to the Altus or maybe Sram sx 4. Does anyone know the Canadian pricing or where on earth I can get these components?

not sure on canadian pricing, but i know the Shimano Deore is the best detonation for the buck. its $25 at jensonusa.com. the next step up is a Deore LX which is $50. most SRAM deuraillers are not compatible near Shimano components. so if you want either to work together, you entail to upgrade the shifters and rear deurailler. ive hear alot of good things in the order of the SRAM X7 which is about $40, but it "supposedley" shifts faster than Shimano becuase of the 1:1 actuation ratio. i own a Deore system on my rig and no complaints so far.
Low end: 5-30 USD.
Middle gamut: 30-100 USD.
Just to show off: 100+ USD.
Better call on Shimano's webpage. I use MTB SIS series and they're very cheap within México (where I live and commute), altough very appropriate and sturdy.

I don't know about pricing within Canada, you should check your bike shops. Sram is very apt on their high conclusion deraileurs (x.7, x.9 and x.0), I don't know about their low- or mid- run out stuff.
Try to get the Acera or Alivio, I don't suggest there would be a big difference between the Altus (Shimano mountain lowest offering) and the other two. Deore is obedient, but I don't know about pricing.
One item you need to know just about some of the Sram stuff is it is NOT compatible with Shimano shifters. Sram ESP must use ESP shifters as it is a different ratio (1:1 versus Shimano 2:1). I don't talk about off the top of my pave the way if the Sram "x" series stuff will work with Shimano shifters.
Bike punctures?
Question:How many punctures should a push bike ridden doing a tour expect to get per year?
I have none for 6 months and then have 7 in the second 6 months (spread over two sets of tyres), that seem an awful lot!

When I get lots of punctures I look at the tyres to see if they are worn, you repeatedly get punctures when the tread wear so you might need bright tyres. It might be the time of year, there are more thorns and things almost in the autumn. It might be that anything created the first puncture is still in the tyre cause more. It's not unheard of to get that various punctures, but tyres are much better quality presently and I rarely win them anymore. Talk to a good bikeshop. That's about majority, spread over the year, if you are cycling every day.

Every time my daughter goes out on her bike she seem to come home with a puncture, I newly think it's luck. I travel through loads of puncture kits and it drives me bonkers fixing them adjectives the time. Happy patching mate.
The trick is not to ride too near the kerb where on earth all the sharp bits collect. As a cyclist you should ride at tiniest 1 metre away from the kerb. This establishes your presence on the road and cars are smaller quantity likely to squeeze departed you. Remember you have a right to be near. However riding two abreast whatever the road is similar to is not a good item to do.
Buy some Sludge, you inject the gunk into your innertubes and it seals the hole, you still have need of to fix the puncture eventually but your tires will not go down...lb5 get you a bottle of the stuff..
I'm sure they are designed to get punctures.
Fill the tyre full of cement, assignment done.

you knead to check the inside of the tyre, every time you get a puncher, nearby may be a thorn or bit of glass, and in that sneaky they Waite until you are as for away as poss before letting you down. Also check helm rim for spokes etc.
They seem to come contained by spurts. I'll go a thousand miles or more minus one, the get one respectively day for a couple days within a row. Sometimes if you're getting a lot of punctures, any the tread on the tire is wearing thin or in that is a sharp object on the inside of the tire. When you renovate a flat, run your hand inside the tire to receive sure there's nothing that might puncture the tube you in recent times changed.
The story of my life.
I travel to work by bike, through country lane and am forever picking up thorns in the tyres.
I immediately carry a spare tube and a puncture repair paraphernalia.
When I get a puncture I freshly replace the tube and fix the puncture at my leisure, but within time before I use the bike again.
when i worked have a pushbike courier i got three within one day..afterwards i invested in some armadillos for my racer since September not have a puncture since i got them from Evans 19.99 respectively .but worth it and in the summer adapt again use them in winter

Why does my bike tweaking gears on its own?
Question:I bought this bike second hand, and it be practically brand new. It worked fine at first. I reflect maybe it be something I did. Can I do anything to fix it? What could have cause it?

its definitely out of index. bring it to a local bike shop, or you can try via drum adjustments.
Sounds to me that any your chain is too tight or too loose.There is also the possibility that you bent the gear on the tire.Take it to a bike shop if you are not sure what to do.
If you own an indexed type gearing (numbers on the shifter and it supposed to click into a gear) then your cable are a little loose, if you hold the old style thumb shifter (the type that works on friction, ie: you hold to find the gear)then the shifter lever itself could be a little loose. The shifter can be tightened by turning the screw i.e. in the center of the bottom of the lever clockwise.
it sounds like your flipside derailleur cable needs to enjoy the slack taken up if it falls to the smaller gear or loosened if it jumps to the subsequent bigger gear. there should be an adjustment tub on it ,to tighten the cable turn it counter clock wise and clock erudite to give it slack it freshly turn it about a 1/4 turn at a time it may be trial and error if you don't hold a repair stand. Adjust the shifter pressure. It is allowing the cable to move and shift gears.
