Cycling Questions and Answers

How do you find the age of a Western Flyer bicycle using its serial number?

Answers:

If it has a Sturmey Archer rear hub on the wheel, especially a 3-speed, the date will be printed on the hub.

See www.sheldonbrown.com for more information about this type of bike.
Also, there are several Western Flyer collectors on the web.

Some of the Western Flyer are commuter grade and some are less. Rarely, there are a few very stylish cruisers in the Western Flyer brand, so those are worth more. The higher value models are almost all 3 speed, with a few derailleur based. The lower value models are almost all single speed.
The rare exception is one or two outrageously styled single speed cruisers that were made in the 50's. Those are also valuable, but without the date on the hub, you'll have to look at classic collector's websites.
Not matter what date, the more outrageous the styling, the higher the value of the Western Flyer bikes.

But, I'm saying, check and see if it is a 3 speed, and if so, just read the date right off the rear hub. ;)

Cycling for fitness?

Question:I am about to start a alien job which is closer to home. I be thinking that to save money and find some exercise that I would ride a bike to work. The round trip for the day would be around 8 kilometers across fairly flat ground.

At the moment I am a vigorous weight, but could stand to tone up a bit.

But later night my husband said I will take really muscly legs. I don't want to have chunky legs - a short time ago nice and average sized with some muscle tone.

Does anyone ride bicycles - does it build your leg muscles up approaching my husband said it will?
Answers:

Such a short trip on relatively flat terrain will give you nice tone and be paid you feel better overall. Your body will take action to your riding as it's supposed to, so no matter what happen just savour yourself. Don't worry- you're not gonna look like those mean bodybuilder chicks.

But as a cyclist, I can tell you that strong legs on a woman is DEAD SEXY!
I ride twenty miles a time hard riding and it have not made my legs muscle bound
My legs have pretty moral definition, but I have the type of body that does that. I know lots of girls that ride material hard and don't enjoy mega leg muscles. A round trip of 8kms is not that much. You have zilch to worry nearly. But if you fall surrounded by love with it and start accumulation a lot more distance and you transpire to get muscles that are too big basically stop.it won't take long to lose it if it's worth it to you. I love riding and could caution less.
I similar to drinking beer while i cycle. That way, I can achievement like a vehicle and shout "beep beep" at the physical cars while i'm riding down the sidewalk!
I have to agree next to bikernoj. I'm a girl and I ride a lot. My legs and abs even hold gotten a lot toner, but unequivocally not bulky.

Save gas and have fun riding!
Sorry, hubby is wrong...At such a short distance it will transport a while just for your legs to grasp toned. But they won't get that big. Would he a bit you weigh 100 kilos ?
Don't even worry a second just about getting bulky legs. That amount of riding will only relieve you and you'll get toned up more than anything.
Enjoy your rides and update your charmer to work on his delivery a bit.
I recommend peddle in a lower gear. You seize more revolutions, but you are not subjecting your leg muscles to the strain which builds bigger muscles.

A lower gear will keep them other tones.
i ride 250+ miles a week and i havn't bulked up, just toned up. if anything my legs are thinner :)

I am slow at my mission. its involves cycling adjectives daytime and everyone else is faster than me even the trial ancestors?

Question:...i am not the best cyclist ever but i have be at it over six months so i cant be that bad. any tips?
Answers:

What do you work at a gym or what..I know not of this errand you write of, so no tips can be given with intelligence.more info needed, please!
maybe is not the job you should be taking...
more practice..
Maybe you should consider a work change, something more your speed.
I get a tip - don't worry give or take a few it! If your bosses don't think that you're going too slow, consequently you haven't got much to verbs about.

In the august scheme of things, it's probably going to pinch you more than six months to get used to it. To start cycling everyday puts a pretty big strain on your body, and not everyone's built for speed!

Good luck contained by your job - I'd love to be a cyclin' postie!
don't sweat it, and maintain pedaling.
you'll get better if you stick next to it, but if you constantly judge yourself to others right very soon while building your leg strength you will only bring down your morale.
What humane of bike do you ride? If it is a mountian bike it will always be slow. Get a road bike, larger wheel and higher gears will brand name you a lot faster.
