Cycling Questions and Answers

Anyone rode across the country on bicycle?

Question:Did you go out AND hindmost on bike? What routes did you take? the south? Cali coast? the Rockies? I am planning and training to do it within a couple of years? Any tips? Feel free to email me.
Answers:

I rode from Vancouver, British Columbia to Northern Ontario. I took the Trans-Canada highway in 1998. I didn't really train, or know how to ride a bike at the time, but somehow I manage. Training is definitely polite, because a few years later, I rode a stretch within the Rockies with training and be amazed how "easy" it was.

Are you planning on doing a supported trip or are you going to get your own stuff? Supported would be easier, but carrying your own stuff is more admirable. I did that.

Some tips:
- Pack as table lamp as you can, after you've lightened your nouns, lighten it again and THEN, put spinal column some underwear.
- Always check your tires and brakes before you ride, some smart asses may disengage your breaks when you walk out your bike locked up in a small town
- Carry pepper spray for rural dogs and hold on to it handy (never had to use it, but it be good to know it be there)
- Put sunscreen on your forehead and face/jawline if it's sunny, otherwise by the end of the trip you will own tan lines from your helmet and straps and look similar to an idiot.
- EAT! EAT! EAT! You will always be aware of like you've have enough, but you haven't. Eat more. Eat adjectives the time.
- Eat right. No fried foods, they'll ruin you. Eggs are pretty bad too. For me, red meat and rime cream were really beneficial. The best lunchtime for energy and lack of complaint was oatmeal contained by the morning. Bagels are good staples. Trail mix be useless. Kind of heavy, bulky, easier said than done to eat, fancy really gets to you, and not adequate fast gusto.
- If you think you might enjoy to do the #2, wait until you run before you ride. Riding next to full bowels is excruciating.
- I will assume that you've researched what tools and parts to carry. Remember too, depending on where on earth you're riding, you can often buy stuff as you necessitate it.
- Have enough dampen! I put triple cages on my bike AND strapped hose down bottles on the rack. You can not always be sure that in attendance will be water available. You might encounter an outhouse instead of a washroom facility at a park.
- Carry chemical bug repellant (I tried to shift natural, not good). Also a small bottle of citronella grease that can be sprayed is useful. Citronella grease doesn't last long, but if you spray a cloud around you, it will furnish you enough time to put on the DEET until that time the horse flies and mosquitos eat you up.
- Buy a tiny portable radio, underscore TINY, and bring it with you. You will call for this to catch weather forecasts.

Most importantly, soak up the scenery, relish the people you unite and the towns you encounter. I saw way too various people trying to ride as vigorous as they could and they missed out on all of the experiences along the track.
I've heard around people doing that to angle money, they went through towns to collect money on their route and stopped at hotels that have them well brought-up deals (for the cause). I give attention to there be a woman who did that not to long ago, it took her like 2 months i feel
No.
But it's on my list.

How to maintain spokes from coming lose?

Question:my spokes come lose about every month or so any iformation on how to keep hold of them in place?
Answers:

you should probably upgrade your wheelset...
if the spokes are coming loose that frequently, it is not a awfully good set of wheel...
you should only own to true your wheels and check the rigidity of the spokes every few months, unless you are riding centuries every day...
A honest way of preventing spokes from coming loose is to apply a small drop of rim cement or silicon solution over each spoke.

check this site for more

Rim cement is biddable, but are you cranking them too tight? This seems to be a rarer problem, it's usually user error.
Good luck.
Take your bike to a bike shop and own the service mechanics tighten them to the proper tension similar the specs for your wheelset.
Spokes in wheel just don't come lose. Wheel spokes loosen because of incorrect rigidity. You have to remember every time you tighten one of those lose spokes you create another.
Just because your spokes hang on to coming lose doesn't mean you involve to replace the wheels.
Wheel building and truing should just be attempted by those who know how to do it correctly. Back wheels especially because they obligation to be dished . IMO wheel building and truing is an art.
If your have that problem you need to pop in your LBS and have them done correctly and ask around and find out who's honest and who's not.
People make claims almost how good they are but newly because someone works at a bike shop doesn't make him appropriate or a mechanic. Find someone who is good and you won't enjoy that problem.
Your wheels are not built properly and not tensioned correctly.

You involve a rebuild, or procure a new wheelset.

My fingers start to tingle when I ride my bike. Anyone know how to stop this?

Answers:

Get a good duet of gloves, Specialized makes some that protects the ulnar self-confidence from being compressed too much, Do not grip the bar too tight. For road bikes, there is a gel handlebar video or use Specialized Bar Phat (it has a 2.5 or 4.5 mm gel packet that go along the tops & drops of the bar & the tape is wrapped over it). Go to a sophisticated rise stem to shift the weight rotten your hands/wrists and onto the seat. Shift your foot positions around, don't stay in one position too long.
wow hoe
stop putting them contained by the spokes
check your blood sugar levels, they could be soaring
get biker's gloves (gloves lacking fingers) and some foam covers for your handle bar.
You might be gripping the handlebars too tightly and restricting the circulation in your hand. Don't grip so hard, or obtain padding for your toy with grips.
umm...let's see...STOP BIKING? Or just suck it up approaching really who cares?
Take your hand off the handlebar for a while. Also you might want to try a different riding style where on earth you are more upright or possibly the reclining bikes where on earth you are sitting down.
u have effrontery damage surrounded by the upper fore arm probably. I do the same article i have to stop what im doing and shake my mitt like im wake it up.
Ask your doctor, mine told me I was putting pressure on the impertinence in my elbow, and it's not unfavourable if it goes away soon after your done.
Is it surrounded by your pinkie, ring, and part of middle fingers? If so, that is to say probably it!
Keep your wrists as straight as possible..try not to bend them while holding the handle bar.
Listen to icrashalot's answer and you will be fine. If your a big person you are going to enjoy this issue. All you can do is drive your legs harder and lower the pressure on the bars.
Your form may be adjusted too low surrounded by the front forcing weight forward and on to your hand. Be sure to ride with your elbows slightly bent and relaxed. If your form is tipped forward and your arms are straight all the consignment (pressure) is put on the heel of your palms and pinches the ulner nerve (I think). Also try the glove and handlebar cartridge the others have mentioned.

To check your form adjustment lay a straight edge (yardstick) from front to stern and check to see if it's level or tipped slightly up within the front. Most good spaces have micro-adjustments that can be made. Good Luck!
Stretch them, wear reputable gloves and use comfortable handlebar grips. FLEX your hand while you are relaxing and if you have DRY hand use some hand moisturizer---bring some BenGay cream so that after a long ride---it will aid your hands CHILL!
