Cycling Questions and Answers

Hello cyclist. frame abet!!!!!!!...

Question:hey,

do any of you riders know how to measure a frame?
is it diagonally?
Answers:

Frames are measured along the form tube - the tube that runs from the cranks (where the pedals are) to the top tube. Measure from the center of the crank to the center of the top tube. Most bike manufacturers use this center-to-center breadth, although some use center-to-top, meaning the top of the top tube. Either method, you'll have a close estimate of the size. Road bikes are measured surrounded by centimeters, mountain bikes and hybrids are measured in inches.
Also be aware that some bikes are simply measured small, environment , large, etc. This is because nearby is a trend in most bikes toward sloping top tubes, which equals shorter form tubes. This is because the seat tube length is misleading. It tells you nil about the "reach" of the bike, which is the horizontal length of the top tube. TT length, combined near the saddle position and stem length, will determine how far you reach from the form to the bars, and ultimately will determine whether you are comfortable and can control the bike properly. Because in attendance is no standard for reach length on a finicky size bike (using the seat tube breadth for sizing), you can end up next to, for example, an 18 inch bike that is shorter lengthwise than a 19 or 20 inch bike.

Bottom flash, you need to return with on a bike to know whether it fits. Either that or be comfortable understanding the relationship between multiple tube length and angles to compare different models.
from the center of the bottom bracket to to seat to the top of the form stay .

Trek and Specialized bicycles... Whats the big traffic?

Question:I have aquired two bicycles from my girlfriends dad and we love riding them. Everyone keep telling us that they are really nice (and expensive) bikes.

So my interview is... what makes Trek bikes and Specialized bikes so "nice". What make them better than the Shwinn bikes you can get, near more features, from walmart, for less than $200?

Would I be stupid to put up for sale them and get cheaper shwinn bikes next to more features?
Answers:

You get what you repay for. Trek and Specialized will both have honourable frames. The Walmart jobbie will probably have a steel frame that have been moulded surrounded by two parts and welded down the middle. Very bulky and suitable for very hurried downhill (Throwing off a clif). Trek and Spec will hold lighter, stronger and generally better frames. (Getting the geometry right can gross riding a pleasure/pain.)

An MBR test took a budget bouncer around Coed e Brenen (Damn, aversion having to spell Welsh names). Other than the poor aspect frame, they also found that the components were so bad that they kept bouncing out of true, needing constant re-adjustment or even coming loose. It be found that, as well as human being unpleasant, for the most part the ride be bordering on dangerouse.

The Trek and Spec components are good competence, branded names. They will accomplish smoothly and constantly only need the usual maintenance, a bit than constant tinkering.

So to answer your question, you might catch cheeper bikes, but your riding experience would drop considerably. Bikes, like computers are items that you should buy the best that you can afford contained by order to take the best performance/enjoyment.

Luck
Go to the Walmart and heft one of those bikes. Note the surprisingly high immensity for a relatively small bike.

Also note they solitary come in one size - small. If you're more than roughly speaking 5'5", it won't fit you the way a bike should.

Then, if they'll consent to you, take it for a trial ride. Or at least, spin the wheel, squeeze the brakes, run the gears thru the shifting range. Notice how poorly in synch everything is, how the fit and finish is low-grade.

Then if you're still not convinced, shell out $200 and try to ride it regularly for the summer. See how well it holds up, how it perform.

So to answer your question, within one word, it's quality.

Which more features?

It's part that makes the difference, not mass. Specialized and Trek spend more in desight than Schwinn or other Wallmart Specials.

In section, the frame geometry is important. Also, which fork and wheelset they use, and surrounded by part brakes.

Cheap disc equiped full suspension bikes are really second-hand goods if you ride them in the mountain. The suspension really doesn't work (it doesn't hold shocks while keeping you in control, it's a short time ago like a pogo stick), and cheap disc brakes are a short time ago heavier than V brakes, and maybe even not as honourable.
I work in a shop, and take crappy bikes that that all time long. Guess what, they suck. The parts are heavy, they break too well (can you say cheap plastic?), and they're tough to work on! Your paying for a bike worth no more than 30$, where as if you shell out 1000$ for a Trek or Specialized, your paying for a bike worth more of 700-800 dollars, the rest go to running the company. Come on dude, use your head. If someone throws a brand contemporary Porsche at you worth 100 grand, are you going to put on the market it to buy your neighbors 10 year old civic, because its still a coup¨¦ that drives? And what more features are you looking for? The crappy disc brakes that dont stop worth a damn, or all those fancy shimano stickers thrown adjectives over the bike? Take it to a real shop, and ask one and the same question...
In cars it would be approaching shwinn being Kia's or Daewoo's and Treks self like Acura's.
Theres zilch wrong with the Kia, purely the Acura performs better and have better parts and breaks less
I hope that made sense
i can testify to the level of Specialized bikes, i own an Epic- they rock. treks make some sweet bikes too. the difference between these bikes and a walmart bike is the part of everything used in the building of the bike.

-lightweight, strong frames, made from a combination of metals and engineered by really smart citizens to make the best for you. walmart bikes are made from a bunch of glutinous aluminum tubing welded together, they're pretty strong, but weight as much as a small motorcycle.

-better components manner better performance and longer go span of the bike. these parts are genuine shimano or SRAM components that are designed to engineer you ride as smooth and hassle free as possible. walmart bikes use a bunch of plastic to change the gears, they clunk, and click for the rest of their time.

-soft suspension. good bikes come near adjustable suspension. whens the last time you saw an adjustable fork on a walmart bike? honest forks come with things similar to adjustable preload, positve and nagative air chamber, rebound, compression, lockout, etc. s oyou can set the ride to how you want it. they are made next to high element coils with grease damping, or even nouns catridges (the best!), not like that coil and elastomer crap at walmart.

you can certainly et replacement parts for these bikes, down to the bolt. walmart bike break , and you have to buy entire untried parts instead of just the one piece you want.

do not sell these, yes it would be stupid. those look at you and say "wow, Trek. wow, Specialized." they see a schwinn and its no biggie.
enjoy fun!

By how many minutes will Floyd Landis win the Tour de France?

Answers:

I don't know... Levi beat him last year... and Valverde is looking pretty hot, too. Then there's Evans, who I always thought was over-rated and prone to choking but lots of people seem to like.

My mountain bike have a set of RST Omni preload shocks next to cap on the top. Are these to adjust the shocks?

Question:How do you adjust these, and how do they work? By the way my bike is a Haro, if that help.
Answers:

No.

If you take stale the caps you'll spot allen screws inside. Removing them will allow the shock to be disassembled and serviced.
it depends... some lately have cap to prevent dust from getting in and to keep hold of the pressure inside the same but if it say on the cap that you can verbs one way or another to elevate or lower it then yah u can. if you are rideing on a flat surface next keep the suspention's travel short because the movements of the suspention will absourb some of the power that u use to peddal the bike so just raise the suspention when you on rough roads for a green trail you won't inevitability the travel to be more than 100mm but if you are on a blue trail then you own to raise it to a minimum of 100mm and on black dimond... wellraise it above 150mm and depends on how unpromising the trail is you should probly raise it a bit more... and p.s (no offence) RST suspention sucks!! find a decent twosome of rockshock or bomber a nice set should be about the solidity of two of your fingers and the travel should be above 100mm the price for these are usually 500$ for all pourpouse suspention. cheaper ones are crap and more expensive ones are for pros.
