Martial Arts Questions and Answers

Is Karate a primarily striking(hands) base military art?

Question:If not, is there a style of military arts focused on hand strikes, punches, and other things of that sort?
Answers:

Karate is a vastly diverse martial art if you hold learned the feeble ways. The term karate does literally translate as not in use hand, but this is merely because the kanji representing kara was changed from kara plan "that of foriegn origin cheifly from China" to kara consequence "empty." This routine that karate originally meant China foot and thus the empty paw meaning is a latest thing.

Karate be not founded by Gichin Funakoshi. It was simply Funakoshi and a council of other Karateka that arranged to change the kanji for karate to remove the association next to China and to make the dub more appealing to their Japanese occupiers. The autograph was also changed to tight-fisted empty because the council feel that by having it niggardly empty, they kill two birds with one stone. One man to emphasis that karate be a means of weaponless defense and because the concept of austerity appealed to the buddist culture of the Japanese. They did this because, contrary to popular belief, karate did not derive from buddism. See Yasutsune "Anko" Itosu's 10 lessons on Tode (old christen for karate). Itosu opens near the statement that tode did not derive from buddism or confusionism.

Further, if you want to take the origins of karate wager on to a single man, then you would have need of to go fund to Sakugawa. Sakugawa learned from Takahara (Okinawa Ti master one of the indigenous militaristic art of Okinawa) and a Chinese military envoy that has be called Kusanku (Shaolin Chuan Fa master). Sakugawa combined these two arts to form karate (tode). This spawned the school that would eventually become to be called Shuri-te and Shorin-ryu.

However, not adjectives the credit can go to Sakugawa. Kanryo Higanno also combined a form and Chinese chuan fa and the indegenous Okinawan arts to form the school that would eventually become to be called Naha-te, Shorei-ryu, and more popularly, Goju-ryu.

Beyond this, here are other styles of karate that derive from Chinese chuan fa such as Uechi-ryu, Kojo-ryu, Tomari-te, Ryue-ryu, and several others.

Lets look at a simplified Funakoshi lineage: Funakoshi intellectual from Itosu. Itosu learned from Sokon Matsumura. Matsumura knowledgeable from Sakugawa. Again, this is a simplified lineage to be exact simply meant to relate Funakoshi rear to Sakugawa who was sometimes call "Tode" Sakugawa or "Karate" Sakugawa.

Now lets look closer at Karate as an art. Taking a look at Japanese karate. That would be Shotokan, Wado-ryu, Ryobukai, ect. These systems are primarily punch/kick systems and hold been watered down form the imaginative Okinawan Karate. The stances used in Japanese karate are unanimously much larger and deeper than traditional Okinawan stances. Also, the techniques of Japanese karate enjoy had extra movements added to them such as loading up on blocking technique (some times called setting the hands). This be not Funakoshi's doing, instead it was the doing of Japanese students who did so for one primary origin. The Japanese saw themselves as better than the Okinawans. In order to show that they be better, they took bigger stances because the Japanese were bigger than the Okinawans. They added extra moves to technique for the sole purpose of generating power (at the sacrafice of speed) because the Japanese be more powerful than the Okinawans.

Just to comment on Karate being see as the most revered and skilled martial art. The Japanese would disagree. The Japanese would display Kenjustus as the greatest of martial arts and the one requiring the most skill. It be afterall the art of the samurai.

Now lets look at Okinawan Karate. Okinawan Karate is a punch/kick/throw/joint lock/pressure point/ ect. art. Okinawan karate uses high stances that are designed to maximize both mobility and stability. The techniques are designed for speed near power coming from the hip. Okinawan karate is taught next to the following mindset. Keep my oppent at range and try to stop him formerly he reaches me (punch/kick). If he attacks me, step aside, arrest their weapon, lock the joints, initiate pressure points and/or break the joints. If he grab me then attack pressure points, injure anything I can to loose him up to bring out of the grab.

Karate training does involve kata and kata are the heart and essens of true karate. In reality, all japanese warring arts have kata, even kenjutsu. The difference is that karate kata tend to be muck longer than kenjustus kata. Kata is the most powerful tool for training (if you construe the true purpose of kata and have well-read from someone who understands the true purpopose of kata). Unfortunately, I enjoy yet to find a Japanese karate academy whose instructor understands the true purpose of karate. Perhaps this is because the Japanese have not skilled most non-Japanese the true meaning of kata or probably this is the difference between karate-do and karate-jutsu. In karate-do, the kata have simply become exercises.

Just my two cents
One word, Electric Boogaloo!
Depends on the style. Tai kwan do is primarily mitt strikes and hapkaido is hand work. Kung fu is more on the edge hand and foot.
kempo karate is enormously hand base.
Karate translates literally translates to "empty hand". However, Karate recurrently involves other moves such as kicks ans strikes near other parts of the body such as the elbow and knees in PS to punches. These moves then build up to bring in katas (forms) and kumite (sparring).
ya
KARA -TE a japanese word means KARA -EMPTY *TE -hand ,it channel Empty hands self shield.Karate is the most revered and skilled Martial art ,it was founded surrounded by OKINAWA in Japan by Guchin funakoshi .He founded it as shepherd while surrounded by India under difficulties of loosing his flock to passionate animals ,so he devised the technic and with unclothed hands he fought and take out many crazed beast. So after that the art was spread adjectives over the places in the World
The styles that are more foot based are:
1 okinawa te
2 kajukenbo
3 CHA 3 kenpo
4 shorin ryu
5 american kenpo
6 ryu te
7 choy li fut (gung fu)

It also depends on the teacher interpretation of the art.

My gf take taekwondo and i am domineering of her instructor.?

Question:she says it is a teacher/student relationship but it is odd that they are close. she says a romantic relationship is taboo and he is approaching a brother but is this true? wth?
Answers:

Insecurity is soooo unattractive.

Take Taekwondo yourself - within her class (or at least at her school) if you can.

It IS similar to a family relationship. You cram to trust and respect your fellow students, and the teacher is resembling an older brother/father.
quit tripping over your gf taking classes next to someone your jealous of. you gotta take over yourself if u wanna see her happy.
convey her how you feel, your probably path hotter babe!
You shouldn't be jealous. They hold a relationship of a different sort -- an instructor or sen-se (spell?) is important to a pupil. If you don't believe your gf when she tell you they are like bro and sis, afterwards you have trust issues.

.
you shouldn't be green with envy if you know that she really likes you, but if she is showing suspicious signs, than recount her she is looking quite fit from that taekwondo class and ask her if she would mind if you combined it too!! it is a triple win situation;
you get to breed sure they are not doing anything
you get to spend more time beside her
AND... you will look totally ripped and you'll be really healthy

GOOD LUCK!
I don't own enough information to say-so one way or the other. But you said it seem weird that they are so close. Does he pilfer more of an interest in her than he does his manly students? Does he call her? Do they socialize outside of the dojo? He may hold a special interest in her but she may not know it on the other hand.

Don't keep probing her about it, but hold your eyes open.
why are you domineering do you want the instructor all to yourself?
positions of power do hold appeal, and she could smoothly be attracted to him. even though it is an unwritten taboo, if the instructor is less than professional he could smoothly take pre-eminence of his position.

happened to my sister. instructor told her adjectives the things she wanted to hear.

vastly bad mojo.

He dropped his pursuit when I found out.

I suggest you stop human being jealous, and train surrounded by Muay Thai. stop being a cultivator and become a warrior. dont train TKD just to spy on them. be more than you are in a minute, be strength and power, and if that is what she like, she will forget her infatuation.
I would be totally worried because, I met that dude and he bangs every chick that comes within his class.

I think the simply way to stop this is if you try to punch-up him.
you are jealous.

likelihood are that if he is taking tkd, he is doing point sparring which makes him a WORSE swordfighter than if he had no training.

That scheme you could whup his *** easily. you will rainfall on him with combos while he sits within chambering his fists at his hips.

I would suggest getting some training at a school that if truth be told fights beside closer to realistic rules, meander in the college challenge the come first teacher (that is of combat age- it is inappropriate to dare an 80 year old man wearing a diaper and a cane), and proceed to pound them into submission (or grapple them, anything you chose). then you will be contained by a position of authority.

I suggest you have a friend along to videotape the disobey as no one will believe you if you don't hold it on tape.

EDIT: specifically the way to inflict trouble. The reality is that if she is that smoothly swayed by some guy doing "martial tag" after I suggest you forget the whore and start looking for a new girl yourself. If she is swayed by someone resembling that what is to stop her from bieng swayed by the next guy? Maybe her college professor, what are you going to do afterwards? Go get a phd and a tutoring license, by the time you do that and try to one-up every guy that throws a shot into her, she will have see more use than paris hilton on a drinking binge and you don't need that.

EDIT2: thats the social benefit of taking sword over unarmed fighting. for some pretext it triggers visions of charming finesse in thier organizer and if not they simply write it off as sport fencing which is non uncontained to them. So long as your looks don't scream "renaciance party geek" or "anime wannabe".
If bluto is correct about your girl anyone swayed by martial artist guy efficiently, send her my opening. I most likely can see her instructor's as$ if he do point sparring and your as well if you don't train authentic.

Oh man I would love to impress a girl who is attract to martial artist/fighter that's a infrequent one! Must be so nice to not feel resembling I have to salt away it.
He's tappen that As$.
it really is true about the brother/father home relationship thing. i see my 3 instructors as elder bros and we always own a laugh. im sure she loves you really much and she wont ever cheat on you. you gotta trust her more
Well it is probably nothing. Seriously don't verbs too much. Look at how he interacts with other students. He may only be a personable sensei who care something like his students.

You might want to take Jujitsu simply in valise. That way if it turns out he have romantic interest with her consequently you can take him down and put him contained by a submission. Don't seriously hurt him though cause after you will be doing time with Inmate #273 and Inmate #273 may be lonely and Inmate #273 may know his own submissions and inmate #273 possibly 300 lbs.

Seriously though don't sweat it.
dont be insecure..man dont worry more or less what might happen surrounded by life...its wayyyy to short and besides if she does cheat big business deal yeah it hurts but you dont need that thoughtful of woman anyway
You don't need to verbs, take her out for sushi, that's what she like :)
Sounds funny to me. If she looks up to him and she is pretty. No such thing as a guy and girl self just friends unless he is gay. Why are they close anyway? Should of late be a student teacher relationship. If I be you I would go study the class one or two days. See how they react. If they look mortified with you near, you know something is up. But dont say you are going to see for that justification. Say you just want to see how angelic she is.
Well, at least you come clean to your problem--being jealous. Get over it though.

And if she does hold a crush on him, so what? Maybe this isn't true for you, but almost every woman I know admit that near are several different types of crushes. She could have a mentor-crush on him. Nothing romantic or sexual implied.

My situation is a bit unusual--I live and train within South Korea in a studio where on earth I am the only foreigner and nobody else speaks much English. Despite our communication differences, my Master is superhelpful to me. I view him as an instructor, a mentor, sometimes as an elder brother (he's 2 months older than me), and as a friend.

I hold told him that he's a mentor to me in a dispatch that a friend translated. I don't know if his wife has see it. No matter, luckily, his wife (a week elder than me) has no problems near me. She's always extremely friendly and kind to me.

Be similar to her--get over your jealousy.
Insecurity and denial of confidence is so unattractive. When training surrounded by the martial arts, great relationships are developed. Instructor student relationships develop into a bond. Very few times is it romantic. If you are insecure next your relationship with your girlfriend isn't built on trust nor are you truly committed to it. Everyday enthusiasm puts us in situations where on earth we learn to trust our partner and that is what builds and prepares us for time partnerships. When spite arises it is the little green monster that destroys all trust. If they do against adjectives odds, develop a romantic relationship afterwards that is what destiny has planned, and you well-educated at an earlier stage that this wasn't your go partner and you get to start probing to your true partner.
Go in class next to her and make HIM green with envy with your moves and abs (make sure u work out the daylight be4...)
I know where you are coming from, some instuctors use their rule to pick up girls ,I did!
k most of these people own no security and are biased
u dont do too little, but also u dont wanna do too much
yes u enjoy a right to feel spiteful, unsecured
everyone does
it's a type of sense that is sometimes true, or give warnings for the far out adjectives
u can try questioning her, but dont over do it, she'll foot untrusted and that u are gettin too much into her space

however, u also want to learn how to trust her and convince yourself of letting jump some feelings of greed, it only pains u to give attention to of it
however, there is also a reduction to every single relationship existing, besides Marriage
friends should only take close to a certain point, if anymore than that, consequently yes they do would have undercover feelings for respectively other
question - does she spend more time wit her instructor than u? or does she spend more time near the instructor instead of her female friends?
consider of it this way, yea u love her, but if she really is doin wat u are aware of, afterwards that's her choice, she isnt right for u, u gotta find someone that is prepared to make u grain comfortable most of time, example, the right one would instead of constantly stayin around this instructor, she'll keep her distance from him, basically to purposely make u have a feeling better, but enough distance to be pious friends
at the same time, swot up to trust more, if she makes a mistake next she is to blame, but dont u be the one to make the mistake and blame any
however, if your relationship breaks wit her if ever, she'll most likely progress after watever male that is to say closests to her and have mental state of love towards her

however if u really love her and wanna keep her, u can tie her same class, or just somehow take most of her attention of anything towards u, make her have a feeling like u are the best guy contained by the world and she lucky to have u, that opening she wouldnt dare to do anything wit anyone else, unless she's a plain simple *
but.. the risk involves, overdoin it to where u or her will be bored of one and another..

sit down and gossip wit your girlfriend about this
if she isnt inclined to listen or coroperate at all, later she's nothing more than uncaring and immature and stubborn,
a personage that cares with the sole purpose about oneself, doesn't significance any other opinions, and tend to push things more than limits

remember dispense it time, trust, discussion, understanding, most of adjectives , Love

Which figthing style would fit me? And which would I benfit more from?

Question:I am looking at getting back contained by some classes. I am a retired marine, age 27. I am 5'6, 130 pounds drastically small build. But I am also very flexiable. Which figthing style should I look into? I want something that keep me low to the ground so I could use more of a sudmission style.. But at the same time I similar to something that is full of illustrious kicks. I am intensely unsure. I know there are styles I would be better at do to my small size, and insufficiency of muscle mass. Any thoughts?
Answers:

For one, you must remember, muscle has nil to do with MA's. It is adjectives in the wisdom you have, not how big you are. A small soul can easily embezzle an opponent 3 times their size if they are trained right. For the ground conflict, I would definitely recommend Jujitsu. As for the large kicks, Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan, Wushu, Muay Thai and in attendance are several others that have elevated kicks. I believe it is outstandingly important to know how to shelter yourself standing up and on the ground. Kickboxing would also be great for the high kick. Learning 2 styles like that would bring in you a very influential fighter. But remember, your ability are only constrained to your own doubts. If you have doubts, it will be harder for you to cram certain technique. Dont let your size or 'lack of muscle' stop you from erudition. I am a very small creature myself, but I can hold my own when needed. In a fight, its not the size of the dog within the fight that matter, but the size of the fight within the dog.
Peace
Sit down and find the solutions.
Jeet Kwan Do is good.
Subdue the severity and plant the peace. The reed bends, the water flows.
There is no more powerful force on this globe than Peace and Water. Think about it.
I studied Ju-Jitsu for various years.
The advantage of this to smaller builds or women is that here is a range of attack and defense elements. Kicking, punching, holds, take-downs are adjectives studied. Those that are larger can use close attack methods, wrestling-like styles but when you are smaller, the legs are your best defense as they keep you away from your enemy. That is why I preferred Ju-Jitsu. That method was emphasize but the other components were also presented.
I used to right to be heard it was, "Advanced Street-Fighting!"
The best proposal I can give is not to provide it at all. I vote to you as I do everyone else who asks this question. Go out and start taking classes surrounded by styles where you live. Train surrounded by as many diff. systems as you can find. Most school let you train once or twice for free. Just permit them know your out searching for a academy and most will be more than willing to permit you train with them a few times. Keep transcript on each university, the people surrounded by the school, the instructor, everything. After you own checked out several schools, check your record and decide as to which one you like the most. That is the one you train in.
q. what did the oceanic (USMC or Royal?) teach you?

if your looking for hih kick go for - tkd, wushu, muay thai or kickboxing.
for ground conflict - bjj
RECCOM. do a bit of muay thai with bjj & if you would close to - add contained by Wing Chun or Shaolin.

my advice - progress and try some styles for a few lessons later decide. remember size largely doesn't matter within martial arts, it's going on for your ability & experience
Taekwondo involves lots of kicking. You might similar to Jiu-Jitsu more. It has those pinch downs you're looking for.
It's not as popular, but you might want to look into Capoeira (It's African and Brazilian in origin) - it seem to have adjectives you're looking for: It's got low stances and lots of kicking.
What I usually suggest race do is look at some books or Web sites on the different arts and narrow it down to a couple they might be into.
As far as playing to your strengths go, there is another conservatory of thought: Others think you might as all right take an art that requires you to overcome your weakness. Clearly, if you're very small, you won't catch far as a sumo wrestler, but the arts do tend to develop what they demand of you.
Retired Marine? Semper Fi, brother. Well, I can honestly update you that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is my martial art of choice. It is submission ground aggression, and relies heavily on technique, mechanical authority, and weight manipulation to some extent than strength. Your body size will have impressively little meaning when practicing the art. I use it for my Mixed Martial Arts ground-game, and I supplement it beside greco-roman/freestyle wrestling, Judo, and a bit of Sambo. I weigh just a bit underneath 160lbs. and I have no problem submitting guys who weigh 220-250. I outstandingly reccomend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for ground fighting.

As far as striking go, Muay Thai incorporates the most conventional, and practical kicks, punches, knees, elbows, and clinches. Nothing too flashy, but extremely powerful none-the-less.
A righteous well rounded style would be freestyle Karate. You will cram stand up,ground, grappling and weapons. What greatly of people don't follow is that freestyle Karate is about practical street armour not who can kick the chief or punch a pad the hardest. It's conspicuously not a sport martial art approaching TKD or BJJ.The motto of my style is the best of everything in progression.Basically that vehicle we don't care where on earth the technique comes from we improve it and integrate it into our style while still maintain tradition as do most freestyle Karate's.
The hardest thing is finding a pious experienced instructor.I would recommend Bushi Kai or Zen Do Kai, but if your not in Australia or New Zealand you may hold some difficulty finding some one who teaches these styles. These styles also usually hold separate classes available to everyone in Muay Thai and BJJ/Submission/Shoot wrestling. If you can't find one of these i would suggest Kempo or Enshin or another freestyle Karate.

What style is this?

Question:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aju5eid4a...
Although it says Thai boxing, I'm pretty sure it's not.
Answers:

This is definetly Wing Chun. They are doing double arm Chi Sao (sticky hands), though drastically badly, as the point of that drill is to develop touch reflex not speed and power of striking... The dude doing the attacking may as well not do the roll it's freshly a waste of time, I assume or at most minuscule hope that the video is just to create the school look virtuous to perspective students as if this is their chi sao focus they have really missed the point and aren't really preacticing Wing Chun.
It's unambiguously not Muay Thai... it's Wing Chun. That's one of the staple exercises that they're doing.
not sure, but that is specifically not muay thai. muay thai is kick boxing or "dirty boxing" as it is call in UFC using the boss clinch.
Looks like wing chun, but in that are escrima classes that also teach that style of speedily hitting. Escrima is a "stick" art, you learn near fighting sticks usually made of wicker or banana tree wood. When you get more advanced you progress to using machete.

I'd say Wing Chun.
It looks close to wing chun kung fu, with the appendage of arnis rapid mitt strikes. I'd guess Jeet kune do.
Wing Chun's "Sticky hands" and that type of speed you see comes from many years of dyed-in-the-wool training.
mad cat aggression, jajaja
looks like a form of chi sao (sticky hands) near some wing chun or american kenpo karate hand technique..just because it looks rapid and cool does not mean it is decisive. just a point I thought I would share
