"Best" is a subjective term and it depends on what you consider the merits needed to be considered best.
But I'd suggest the group would include these ladies:
6 - Marion Jones. 3-Golds, 2-Bronze and has run the fastest times since Florence Griffith Joyner, but controversy swirls around her.
5 - Florence Griffith Joyner. 3-Golds, 2-Silvers and 2 WRs that still stand, but there's suspicion of doping, although she never one-time a drug test.
4 - Gail Devers. (3 Golds) Only the second woman to shield her Olympic 100m championship ('92 & '96). An even better hurdler than a sprinter, but have not be able to win an Olympic final as a hurdler and have never set a World Record.
3 - Wyomia Tyus. 3 Golds, 1 Silver and four times set or tied the World Record for the 100m. First woman to successfully defend her Olympic 100m competition. '64 & '68.
2 - Wilma Rudolph. 3-Golds, 1-Bronze. Suffered from polio as a child, Wilma became the first American woman to win 3 gold ingots medals within the Olympics. She won the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter fly, and ran the anchor on the 400-meter relay troop. Twice set or tied the WR for 100m.
