The Olympic rings are supposed to represent the continents. Why are in that singular 5?
Answers:
Olympic Rings
The Olympic Rings were created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin surrounded by 1913 and first displayed on the Olympic Flag in 1920. The Olympic symbol of five interlocked rings represents the five productive continents (or the five continents that are represented in the games):
Africa
America (North & South)
Asia
Australia
Europe
and the rendezvous of the athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games. The five colors of the rings blue, black and red (top) and yellow and green (bottom) be chosen since one of these colors can be found in the flag of respectively competing nation.
The Americas are considered one large continent, and thus lone have one ring. Some more cynical folks hold suggested that the 'missing ring' is Africa, was not considered, overall to be an 'Olympic class' continent. However, the 'One America' object is the one given by the International Olympic Committee. BTW: While people are splitting hair over North & South America (look down one), Europe and Asia are even more physically attached, yet not a soul goes on going on for a PC Eurasia.
themayorbynight, I don't think it's "today" that they consider America as one. Originally "America" is one continent and includes the South and the North, and it's name after Americo Bespucio... I suppose the US wanted to differentiate and they created a northen division.
Dunno if it's true or not, but supposedly the nazis have some ties to it

maybe when the olypic rings come to be they only know about 5 continents. why didnt they make the addition of more? i dont know. maybe that should be your subsequent question.
No they dont represent the continents. Each ring is a diferent color. At tiniest on of the colors is on every flag in the world.
The American continets, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. right? Am I right everybody?
The five colors are representative of the colors that are found on most adjectives of the flags of the world.
Depending on how you count them, there are anywhere from 4 to 7 continents. The difference of assessment arises because some people consider Europe and Asia to be one continent, some society consider North and South America to be one continent, and a few people even consider Europe, Asia, and Africa to be one huge continent call Eurafrasia.
However in ancient Greek, the world be not yet subjected to Major tremors and geographical divisions.
The five principal continents were agreed as:-
1. Africa
2. Europe
3. Australia
4. North America
5. South America
They either want to preserve ancient the Greek symbol, or entail to make some modern morning changes.
Africa- 1 ring
America(both)-1 ring
Asia & Europe- 1 ring
Antartica-1 ring
Australia-1 ring
According to the Olympic Charter, the five-ringed symbol "represents the confederation of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games." Baron Pierre de Coubertin conceived of both the symbol and the flag. Not coincidentally, Coubertin is the founder of the modern Olympic Movement. The Olympic Committee adopt the flag in 1914, and it be first flown at the 1920 Antwerp Games.
While the charter isn't explicit, many believe that the colors of the flag-- blue, black, red, washed out, and green on a white field -- are used because at least possible one of these colors exists in respectively of the flags of the nations participating within the Olympics. This may be true; however, the notion that each ring represents a specific continent is not. The five interlocking rings represent the five continents brought together by the Olympic Movement.
The crack ceremony of the Olympic Games adds an extra layer of symbolism to the flag. Traditionally, eight inhabitants carry within the flag. Five of these flagbearers represent the continents, while the other three stand for the Olympic ideals of sport, environment, and culture.
according to the book "the davinci code", the olympic flag used to be a five pointed star which represented life or something far-reaching (cant remember) but anyways, it was changed to the rings to show that everything be united
cuz the penguins and polar bear dont come up from antarctica to compete.
the point of the colored rings is that there isnt a nation on the dust that doesnt have atleast one of those colors within its national flag
has nil to do with continents
North America, South America, Europe, Asia, & Africa (real cool song I widely read in middle school) They don't symbolize Antartica because not a soul lives there.
It doesnt represent the continents it represent the colors that are within the flags of all of the countries that assist in the olympics. There is at lowest possible one of the colors of the rings on each flag of the countries that contribute!
I have no clue what the Olympic rings represents but I can enunciate that there are solely 5 continents... America is not just the USA, I'd close to all the inhabitants from the USA to understand that America is not their country, is in reality a whole continet.
According to most accounts, the rings be adopted by Baron Pierre de Coubertin (founder of the modern Olympic Movement) surrounded by 1913 after he saw a similar design on an artifact from ancient Greece. The five rings represent the five major regions of the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Every national flag contained by the world includes at least one of the five colors, which are (from not here to right) blue, yellow, black, green, and red. It is exalted to emphasize that Pierre de Coubertin never said nor wrote that the colors of the rings be linked beside the different continents
The Olympic Flag made its debut at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. At the wrap up of each Olympic Games, the mayor of that host-city presents the flag to the mayor of the subsequent host-city. It then rests at the town lecture theatre of the next host-city for four years until the Opening Ceremony of their Olympic Games.
economically my first thot was whos representing antarctica?
They don't count Antarctica, because in attendance are no nations or folks from there to compete contained by the games. Europe and Asia are counted as one large continent. So the Five rings stand for N. America, S. America, EurAsia, Africa, and Austrailia/Oceania.
The five interlocking rings represent the five continents brought together by the Olympic Movement. Each ring does not apply to a specific continent.
The continents represented are America (north and south combined), Australia, Africa, Antartica, and Eurasia (Europe and Asia combined)
One ring is for the 2 american continents. The other four are for Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia. The seventh continent is Antarctica and that continent have no life on it nor does it contribute in the olympics. So nearby are only 5 rings.
they needed to stay ahead of Microsoft (anticipated back afterwards in 1913) which have only 4 colors surrounded by its logo.
British and European education systems hold historically taught that near are five continents:
(1) Europe
(2) Asia
(3) Africa
(4) Australasia
(5) America
No hidden agenda that Africa is not "olympic class"; that's a ridiculous comment and bordering on a fiction.
Moreover, Latin Americans refer to "Las Americas" as one continent also.
I was surprised when I moved from the UK to the US as a schoolboy that the Americas be split into North and South and that Antarctica was considered a continent.
Nothing sinister, merely a different cultural-determined definition of the continents.
The first answer is correct. North and South America are one continent - America.
However, the five rings have something to do beside Greek religion, if you look deep into it. So do some research in the order of it. They just report us they represent the five continents as a big cover-up
I want to thank all the low leveled nurture people who wrote that Europe and Asia count as one continent..Please!
P.S:Dear Anjolina doesn`t matter what, your teacher forgot to insert Australia within the song so for the shake of world's geography,do not repeat it.
1 for both the americas
1 for asia
1 for africa
1 for europe
1 for australia
and antartica doesnt take factor because there are none to join
These five rings represent the five parts of the world which now are won over to Olympism and feeling like to accept fit competition. Some literature, such as "The World Encyclopedia of Flags" by Alfred Znamierowski, state that each ring represent the five continents. Using this cook up, the Americas is viewed as a single continent, and Antarctica is omitted.
There are "seven" continents..They didn't donate any, or take away any..In lay down of land mass:
ASIA
AFRICA
NORTH AMERICA
SOUTH AMERICA
ANTARTICA
EUROPE
AUSTRALIA..
What is this topical Olympic event skeleton? I hear it involves a sled. I love sleds.?
Question:I've loved sports involving sleds ever since I watched Cool Runnings. I in recent times heard of a different one, which is called skeleton or skeleting. What is it? Where does it come from? Is it contemporary or am I just clueless?
Answers:
So you love sleds. Good communication! Skeleting is one part sled, one subdivision you! (That is, if you're interested in driving a one-person sled down an rime track at top speeds of 80 mph!) What makes the sport different from luge is that you're frontage first, stomach-side facing the ice. After you receive that running start and jump on the train your sled, I can imagine it would get the impression a lot close to it's just you and your helmet facing a authoritarian track of hard, complex ice. You still interested?
It's the oldest agreed sledding sport, actually. Hailing from St. Moritz, Switzerland, when the Cresta run be built in 1884. In 1928 and 1948, the Olympics be held in St. Moritz, so they included this strange character Skeleton sport! ...but it wasn't actually for good added (or I guess considered anything but crazy?) until 2002. Maybe that's because those X-Games couldn't possibly be worse? Best,
`k.
It's a form of sledding where you pull the wool over your eyes down on your stomach and face the rime.
The full name of the event is the skeleton bob and it's call that for one very simple apology. The SKELETEON is lying on the BOB!. As to newness, it be first shown in the Winter Olympics within Salt Lake City in 2002 so this will be it's second time of showing.
