M38 Mosin Nagant, should the leader space be checked beforehand discharging the rifle?
Question:I just bought a M38 Mosin Nagant rifle from a local store. what should i hold done to it before i nick it to the range to try it out?
(head space, pen, go / No-go guage)??

I;ve owned no smaller quantity than 25 Mosin-Nagants. 38's, 44's, 38 carbines, 91/30's and have never fussed w/headspace. I'v feed them all Czech or Russian 7.62x54 and never have a problem. I go through them and check for any marked cracks or whatnot w/the stock and visualy inspect and diecheck the breech. In over 50,000 rounds I've never had a problem.

First item you should do is clean it really all right. It should be O K to shoot. Let me warn you , that item sounds like a cannon when it fires.
I own one Nagant mod. 1898 made within 1913. It should already be headspaced unless it's been barreled, which is unlikely. Check the breech for ruin and pull bolet and shine a lantern down barrel and look for defect. Inspect it well.

only just clean out adjectives the cosmolene with simple green and you should be correct to go. it's not similar to you are launching a space shuttle, a little looseness here and in attendance isn't going to hurt.

Yes. Should be on the spinal column, just underneath the cocking bolt. Should be for a time dial with a hex screw surrounded by it. Loosen the hex screw and turn the knob. When you get the velocity you want, tighten the hex screw support down.
