Joost does not have a TV low but he is a co-host on a programme on DSTV channel KYKNET call SuperRugby. Sorry it is in Afrikaans one and only and is only braodcast surrounded by Southern Africa, as far as I know. If you like to whatch it please see www.kyknet.co.za or www.kuduclub.com
Which sport do you prefer... RUGBY or AMERICAN FOOTBALL?
Question:Right this is a long standing debate i have beside any americans i talk to and i other manage to hack them sour BUT which sport do you prefer . rugby or american football . i mean come on american football you enjoy less physical contact and wear 40lbs of armour . where's the fun contained by that?
And if rugby ... union or league?

I enjoy played both and I am American born. DO not discount the athleticism or punishment that is involved within American football until you have be hit head-on by a plastic and steel projectile traveling at world class sprinter speeds carrying 300 + pounds behing it. I will take a being without the helmet and pad hitting me any day (i.e. helmets hurt)
Now the truth is that I prefer Rugby Union newly because I like some of the ways the sport works. I focus it sounds ignorant and basically childish when football fans put down rugby or rugby fan put down football as not a sport, not athletic, etc. They are just different.
Keep contained by mind American Football is very medium based and thus have to stop often to accomidate commercials. You may ponder that is not right but you will also mind that it is near to impossible to see rugby on box in the United States because nobody can pay packet for it to be on TV without commercials. So us rugby players may attain a little feat in that we can utter we don't bend to the media but later here we get no medium. With all of the differnt cultures we own in the US and adjectives of these fine atheletes that are here or migrate here few ever even see rugby much less will they ever play it. Our best atheletes will play the sports they see within the media.
If you would resembling more details about the differences within my opinion have played both see the other 100 times I have answered like peas in a pod question (Don't we procure this question approaching once a week).

I have to acknowledge I prefer rugby. League is better in my inference. But in guard of Amenrican Football, those are big, big men charging headfirst at respectively other! The armour is kind of neccessary, also look at the athleticism to move at the speeds they do wearing 40lbs of armour!

american football is like most american sports...deeply tedious.they spend 90% of the time conversation.then as soon as someone is tackle they stop again.baseball is even more boring than cricket and in this country is call rounders and played by girls.by the way federation is way better than league

RUGBY! Definately, I used to play rugby and I never could understand the winter sport of american football and besides, rugby players aren't padded up to the hilt so their pretty skin doesn't get shabby! What is the point of playing a physical sport if you are going on with more filling than a lunatic's cell!

why not ask this question contained by the america football section to find a fair answer...everyone within the rugby section will distinctly say they close to it more....personaly like the other guy that answered i similar to his point about the two sports human being different....our game is different and because of that we call for pading..there would be 10 times more death than rugby if there wasnt any filling because someone can get speard within the back surrounded by football when catching a pass whereas contained by rugby its either side or forwards tackle...i play both and respect both....and it hurts a lot more to return with tackled beside a helmet in the gut than zilch at all....so dont knock it until you've tried it
Well I'm an American, and I agree beside you! Rugby is infectious, and more demanding; furthermore, it gave birth to American football. Most football fan don't know that.

Offside is a complicated part of rugby grouping.
Different phases of the game enjoy their own set of offside laws.
OFFSIDE IN OPEN PLAY
If a player is within front of a team-mate in possession of the bubble, or in front of a team-mate who closing played the ball, they will be offside if they:
Actively try to play the orb
Do not retreat within 10m of an foe who is waiting for the ball
Move towards the opponent or the place where the orb lands without first coming rear onside
The referee will award a cost at the place where the sin took place.
OFFSIDE AT A SCRUM
For scrum-halves, the offside line is the flash of the ball feed into the scrum.
That means they can't move about beyond that line until the bubble has be put into the scrum by the opposing number nine.
For adjectives the other players, the offside line is an intangible line drawn through the 'hindmost' foot of the concluding player in the scrum.
No player apart from the eight forwards and scrum-halves are allowed inwardly this area.
