Why does my ski "hook" when I am telemarking powder?
Question:I telemark in the Colorado backcountry quite a bit, and at least once a day when the powder is deep, one of my skis will "hook" causing me to lose control, spin around, and crash.
Is it the fault of ski or the skier?
Answers:
Well, I am an experienced alpine skier, and a very beginner type of tele skier, but from watching some of my friends really rip tele in any condition, I would say the blame falls with the skier.
I could offer a couple tips...I'm sure you already know this stuff though.
1. strive for about 50% weight distribution to both skis.
2. in challenging conditions, keep a lower center of gravity.
3. be aggressive with your turns.
Which ski resorts are closest to geneva airport?
Question:planning a short ski break soon. i'm going to get a cheap flight to Geneva. Does anybody know which ski resorts are closest to geneva airport

Chamonix surrounded by France or the Portes de Solielle in the Valais 120km i.e. the largest skiing domain in Europe it go over to France ,Chatel , Abondance etc. and in Switzerland you hold Morgins, Champery, Champusin, Tourgon, etc. Verbier, Montana, in Valais , Lesyin within Vaud
Try Grenoble or Verbier, they're not too far off and especially Verbier is dutiful fun!
The French alps and swiss resorts such as Verbier are equally as far. Verbier is one of the most liked resorts within all of Switzerland but you'll finish up paying a good deal more. You'll sense there are tons of English relatives there but within is definitely plenty to do and the skiing is upright. As of lately the snow conditions have be horid but the snow has be coming down hard for the ending 2 days. I suggest either Verbier or a french alp resort such as Avoriaz, Flaine, Megève or Chamnoix. There is plenty to chose from.
That would be the Swiss Alps, Verbier is an excellent resort. Enjoy yourself!

There are slightly a few resorts all inside a 2hour drive of the airport. Chamonix, Morzine, Avoriaz, Flaine, Les Gets and Samo"ens are a few that are on the French side of the Alpes.
It all depends on what you are looking for contained by the resort. Flaine is about an hour away and offer fantastic skiing and off piste. It have a terrain park but its was not that polite last season.
Chamonix is within the valley subsequent door to Flaine and you will be able to ski bad onte Blanc, the highest Peak surrounded by the Alpes. Both these resorts had great snow second year as of there large elevation.
Morzine and Avoriaz are right next door to respectively other and if you are a serious freestyle boarder or skier this is the place to hit up. Avoriaz more so. It has some of the best terrain parks within the Alpes and there are plenty of urban spots to hit at darkness when the lifts are closed!
Les Get have a good snow copy last year and also boasts some dutiful terrain parks.

But depending on your nationallity you will need a visa. If you are South African you can call round Switzerland without a visa. If you do person in charge that way you should boss for Zermat or Saas Fee. They are a much further out from Geneva but well worth the trek.
Portes de Soleile is a brilliant nouns and the largest in Europe. You can ski adjectives day minus covering the same ground. You can step from France into Switzerland down a black run called the wall. Its deeply of fun and Avoriaz, which is part of the system have a half pipe. Stay at Morzine or Avoriaz. Avoriaz is surrounded by the midst of the skiing and is mainly self catering apartments.
How does the point system work in a snowboarding competition?
Question:Like the X-games... I know they have judges but how do they judge a run to be 90.0 or 78.6? I also hear the commentators say other riders had better runs, so is it fair to have judges?

yes. It is as far as any olympic sport that has judges, diving, skating etc. It depends on the actual event but for example the superpipe. they will rate on
1. amplitude
2. creativity
3. technique
4. difficulty
These are equally weighted and a competitor is judged by ex-riders and now take their jobs as judges extremely serious. I'm not a judge and i could for the most part tell what the score would be by just watching the run vs. other runs. It is true that as a competition goes on the judges tend to get tougher on the scores. But thats why you get 3 runs normally and the order varies.
I purely bought a strange twosome of skis, i have my bindings mounted for my boots, do i really entail to bring a wax?

New skis come waxed, shop shouldnt wax them, they should know better..
you can probably acquire one full day or riding on up to date skis, just depends on how several runs you do. after that i would definately get them wax since the wax from the manufacture is really nought
